Spotlight The Continental Lounge

Community Spotlight: The Continental Lounge

For Kevin Dubay and his wife Jennifer, opening a restaurant was always on their to-do list. In 2006, the up-and-coming Des Moines East Village presented the perfect opportunity for The Continental Lounge to settle in. The rustic jazz-filled bar and restaurant has quickly become a local favorite in downtown Des Moines. I sat down with Jennifer to discuss her love of jazz, cocktails and their experience using Change.

What is your specialty?
Our crafted cocktails and one-of-a-kind mojitos. Tapas, tilapia, and veggie burgers are some other favorites. We also host jazz nights on Saturdays and have had local jazz groups on rotation since we've opened.

What do you love about running your own restaurant?
Seeing the people and the regulars happy. It’s fun to be around food and drinks. It’s an ever changing industry so we’re always looking for new trends and foods to make. We go to New York City and Chicago for inspiration.

Why did you choose Change?
We had been using an old cash register for about eight years. The tiny screen and inefficiency wasn’t working for us and we needed something different. At home, we use Apple products and were interested in an iPad point of sale system. We also liked the fact that Change is local and located in Des Moines. We are able to contact them anytime at any hour.

How has Change affected The Continental?
Since Change is local, it is extremely convenient for us. It’s much easier to use than the our previous system. Change is a visual and smooth POS system. We’re more efficient now.

You'll find The Continental Lounge at 428 East Locust Street, Des Moines IA, 51309. To learn more about The Continental Lounge, you can visit their website.
